The PlayStation 2 Turns Twenty-One-Years Old in North America Today

It's time to briefly look back on a legendary legacy.

The highest selling video game console of all time, with over 155 million units sold, has its North American birthday today. Originally releasing in North America on October 26, 2000.


The PlayStation 2 (PS2) was home to the beginnings of many iconic franchises: "Ratchet & Clank," "God of War," "Devil May Cry," and more.

Many games also received sequels on the PS2 from the original PlayStation, such as "Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3," "Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne," "Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex," and so on.

The PlayStation 2's lifespan would last 13 years, going into the lifespan of the PlayStation 3. The PS2 would even surpass the PS3's lifespan by two years.
