‘Curse of the Dead Gods’ Crossover Update with 'Dead Cells' Debuts Next Week

Updated: Jun 23, 2021

The roguelike dungeon-crawler “Curse of the Dead Gods” will have new additions with a “Dead Cells” theme. Including new weapons, new Curses, a new head skin, and more.

The new "Dead Cells"-themed Curse, Curse of the Headless, will make players move quicker at the cost of taking more damage.

Curses are, according to the wiki for "Curse of the Dead Gods," given to players when their corruption gauge, increased by certain actions (ex. Being hit by dark magic), reaches 100. The curses are randomly chosen.

Also included are three new weapons: The Crossbow of the Condemned, the Sword of Conjunctivius, and the Broadsword of the Knight.

These are based on the Explosive Crossbow, the Cursed Sword, and the Broadsword from “Dead Cells.”

The Sword of Conjunctivius acts like it does in “Dead Cells'' in “Curse of the Dead Gods.” It’s an extremely powerful weapon, but if the player gets hit once, they’re killed.

The Crossbow of the Condemned is special for “Curse of the Dead Gods.” It's the first ranged weapon for the game that isn’t a throwing weapon.

There’s a challenge room players can enter during their runs to get rare loot. To open the chest to claim the reward, the challenge room must be beaten without taking damage.

The chest in the challenge room is the Cursed Chest from “Dead Cells.” The chest will give a choice of three items, all three being cursed.

Finally, The Prisoner’s Head skin will be available for the protagonist, based on the protagonist from “Dead Cells.”

That’s it for the "Dead Cells" content for the update. However, “Curse of the Dead Gods” will be bringing new Curses, Relics (passive bonuses), and Two-Handed Weapons to the game with this update as well.

This update titled the “Curse of the Dead Cells” is a collaboration between: “Curse of the Dead Gods” developer Passtech Games, “Dead Cells” developer Motion Twins, and Evil Empire who also developed “Dead Cells.”

Many of these items were tweaked to fit within the “Curse of the Dead Gods” universe. “We were also aware that some players don’t like crossovers, since it can pull them out of the world,” Margaux Saly, the Associate Producer & Communication Manager at Passtech Games said.

“That’s why we wanted to keep the content lore-friendly and fit the general vibe of Curse as well. Each new item and mechanic introduced in this update fits into our universe.”

“Curse of the Dead Gods” just came out of Early Access on Feb. 23. This is their first update after leaving Early Access.

“We hope you all enjoyed this insight into how we brought a slice of ‘Dead Cells’ into our own ‘Curse of the Dead Gods.’ It was a pleasure to work with Motion Twin and Evil Empire, and we cannot wait to see how the update will be received by you, the players!” Saly said.
