'Mafia' will be Free the First Five Days of September on Steam

The 2002 open-world title will celebrate its anniversary with a free present for Steam users later this week.


In "Mafia," the player controls Tommy Angelo, a cab driver in the 1930s plunged into organized crime.

"Mafia" was developed by Illusion Softworks, releasing for Windows in 2002 and PlayStation 2 & Xbox in 2004.


Illusion Softworks was renamed 2K Czech in 2008 after being acquired by Take-Two Interactive Software. Hangar13, developers of the definitive editions for the "Mafia" Series and "Mafia III" confirmed on Twitter that 2K Czech merged with them in 2017.

Illusion Softworks is most well-known for their work on the "Mafia" Series. They also developed titles such as "Top Spin 4," "Vietcong: Purple Haze," and more.


"Mafia" released August 28, 2002, turning 20 years old yesterday.
