'Soul Hackers 2' Announced for Windows 10/11, PlayStation, and Xbox

The sequel has been given an August 25, 2022 release date in Japan, releasing August 26, 2022 in the West.

The sequel to "Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers" was announced this morning on atlustube. "Soul Hackers 2" will release on Steam, Windows 10/11, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S|X.

The stream started with an ominous voiceover addressing Ringo, the protagonist of "Soul Hackers 2."

The beginning of the stream includes a choreographed battle with Ringo going up against multiple enemies. After the battle, "Soul Hackers 2" was name dropped, followed by the announcement trailer.

"Soul Hackers 2" is about Ringo, a Devil Summoner. Devil Summoners can summon demons.

She, alongside other Devil Summoners, must stop a prophecy that may lead to the destruction of the world.

Multiple things from the original "Soul Hackers" return in "Soul Hackers 2," such as the Phantom Society, a group of morally bad Devil Summoners; Dr. Victor, who helps the player with fusing demons & more; and so on.

Unlike the original "Soul Hackers," which had a party system of six, mostly accompanied by demons, "Soul Hackers 2" has a four-party system with only Devil Summoners.

The party system has a striking resemblance to the party system in the "Persona" and "Tokyo Mirage Session #FE" Games.

This may not be a coincidence as two of the three Directors from "Mirage Session," Eiji Ishida and Mitsuru Hirata, are producing and directing "Soul Hackers 2," according to Persona Central.

"Soul Hackers" will also have "Persona 5" costumes, music, and equipment available as pre-purchase DLC. There will also be a limited edition including bonus goodies.

"Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers" was released in Japan in 1997 for the Sega Saturn and 1999 for the PlayStation. The West wouldn't get "Soul Hackers" until 2013 with its 3DS port, released in Japan in 2012.

Before the Nintendo 3DS eShop closes, anyone interested in "Soul Hackers" can still buy it digitally.

Atlus has confirmed that "Soul Hackers 2" will have both Japanese voice acting and an English dub.
