The Thirteenth Anniversary of the Original 'Dead Space' is Today

The 2008 sci-fi survival horror third-shooter that is fondly remembered turns thirteen today.

"Dead Space" first released in North America on October 13, developed by EA Redwood Shores (later changed to Visceral Games), and published by EA Games. "Dead Space" received critical acclaim and won multiple awards.

"Dead Space" was first announced September, 2007. Before the release of "Dead Space," EA Redwood Shores had worked on "The Sims," "The Simpsons Game," and many more.

"Dead Space" also won multiple awards in NAVGTR 2008, such as the: "Animation in a Game Cinema," "Art Direction in a Game Cinema," "Camera Direction in a Game Cinema," "Lighting/Texture," "Sound Effects," "Sound Editing in a Game Cinema," and "Use of Sound" awards.

"Dead Space" also won other awards, such as the 2008 Game Developers Choice Awards "Audio" award, the 2008 British Academy of Film and Television Art's "Use of Sound" and "Original Score" awards, and many more.

In 2017, EA Redwood Shores, as Visceral Games, was closed by EA Games. While closed to this day, Visceral left a large impact on the gaming industry with their "Dead Space" series, which spawned two more entries and an animated film.

There is a remake of "Dead Space" being developed by EA Motive, which was announced in July of this year.
